Some Exciting News!!!

I have some big news :) I auditioned for a hosting position of a new PBS show last wednesday and I received a phone call stating that the job is mine :)

The show is titled Muscle Car Workout Show and I will be the host! My co-host, Alan, has been in the car industry since he was 8 years old; therefore, he is the "Car Guy". He and I will be given a script, but the show is intended to be lightly script with Alan and I conversing and working on the car. We are supposed to be as natural as possible; therefore you will never see either of us looking directly into the camera. By the end of the season it will be topics we are discussing rather than a memorized script.

Season 1 will be seen on WCEU which is a PBS station here in Central Florida. The eventual goal is for the show to go to National Distribution on PBS. I have not signed the contract yet, but I go in tomorrow to do that. I will be signing on for 13 (30 minute) episodes and they are starting to look into season 2 topics!

I extremely excited about this new opportunity and I feel the same about competing in the Miss Florida USA Pageant next month!!

Our Day at the Beach, June 6, 2008

Day 2 was our off day and boy did we take it off! After a lack of sleep the night before, we made up for it by getting a whopping 13 hours of sleep!!! We did not wake up until 11:45 am!

When we were finally up, we put some breakfast (or I guess lunch) in our tummies and headed over to the fitness center. We worked out for about 40 minutes doing various cardio activites. My fitness trainer, Arnold, has me doing all sorts of things like walking backwards and doing lunges on the treadmill. After cardio we threw on our swimsuits and headed to beautiful Keating Beach.

It was gorgeous outside. There were not a lot of people, the water was blue, and the sun was out. The weather was just perfect with a constant cool, breeze coming from the ocean. We stayed at the beach for a bit and then decided to go to the mall to shop and to Season's 52 for dinner :)

We pulled up to Season's 52 at 7:50pm to put in our dinner reservations. The next hour was spent shopping, which we all made at least one purchase. By 9:20, we were at a candle lit table enjoying edamame and flat bread. The neat thing about Season's is that there menu is seasonal so it changes and everything is under 475 calories! All the food was delicious and we had plenty left over to box up.

We were home by 11pm. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day :)

Jackie, Emily and I met up at my place in East Orlando on Wednesday night at 9:30 to start our drive to Hollywood, Florida. Yes I did say start our drive! With all of our busy schedules, that was the earliest we could leave. We had an uneventful drive with a Taco Bell and gas station pitstop (not to worry Arnold, we ordered healthy :)

We arrived in our room at the hotel at 1am and were a sleep by 2am. Just enough time to be up by 5AM!!!!!!

By 6:30, we were at Tel-Air Productions trying on our opening number dress. Thursday pre-taping day is a great day to attend because there is not an overwhelming about of contestants (there were 11). Meeting the 11 girls before Saturday's seminar made it that much easier for me to meet all the other girls on Saturday.

Once everyone had their dresses on we left and headed over to the Westone Diplomat Resort and Spa. Anastasia (one of the contestants) rode with us. We spent all morning outside the Weston Diplomat Resort and Spa on their beach filming our introductions and interviews. The beach was beautiful and the host hotel is amazing. It was a perfect day to be outside.

Once we were finished, we went inside and taped the prize package, packed up, dropped off Anastasia (who happens to be a sweetheart), and headed back home. Although we had a full 6 hour day it was only 12:30! So we stoped by Friday's for lunch, layed out poolside at our hotel, went grocery shopping at Publix, and finally fell asleep at 11pm watching TV! Day 1 was complete :)

All around Orange County school classes are celebrating the end of the year. Lucky for me I had the chance to celebrate with one of those classes. On Thurs, I stepped foot on the brand new school Sunset Park Elementary in Windermere. Once inside I went straight upstairs to Ms. King's 3d grade class. They were all expecting a 'Queen' to walk through their door and sure enough one did...ME :)

I had all 18 of them listening as I told them about myself, my title, and Love Letters: Random Cards of Kindness. The kids were very excited to make cards and they made some great "Dino-riffic" and "Picnic" cards for 40 children with life-threatening diseases. When we finished, I answered questions and signed autograph cards as well as special t-shirts Ms. King had made for each of her students. It was a short visit, 45 minutes, but the kids appreciate me visiting and felt special that I "choose" them to make Love Letters :)

Today I met up with my sister Queens and our Director Kim Antos for a day of Pageant Training. We discussed orientation, Miss Florida Week, and what we have done so far to prepare. At the end of our session, we were surprised to find out that Daytona Beach College wanted us to film promos for the Daytona Cubs Baseball Team! Well, being that this was completely unexpected, we were not exactly looking camera ready :)

Lucky for us, the staff was flexible and gave us just enough time to quickly do our hair and make-up. Once ready, we were given a Cubs uniform, a few lines, and Lights Camera Action: we filmed the promo :) It was a lot of fun and we have some great pics captured on our home page of http://www.missdaytonausa.com/

Here are a couple of events that have gone by that I wanted to mention in my blog :)

Every year, the University of Central Florida has a Faculty and Staff Holiday Party. This year I was asked to perform a dance routine along side the current Mr and Miss UCF. It was a great opportunity to meet the people who make UCF the incredible University it has become. I was honored to be invited to such an event.

For the second consecutive year, I was asked to assist Veronica Livesay in a presentation on HOW TO WORK A ROOM:NETWORKING IN SOCIAL SITUATIONS Seminar during Leadership Week at the University of Central Florida. It is really a treat to have students attend a workshop like this. The students are their to learn the basics of business and social etiquette. Veronica and I had notes prepared with helpful tips as well as live exercise to reinforce meeting, mingling, and making small talk with strangers. The purpose was to enhance and enforce leadership skills and learn to be more relaxed, comfortable, and self-confident in interviews and social situations.

Friday marked our first event that Denesha, Emily and I participated in together and our second event with the wonderful organization Operation Caring Through Sharing. Vanacore Homes has donated a luxury house in Ormond Beach for their raffle which began this weekend. For $100 you can buy a raffle ticket and be a part of this amazing cause. Today Emily and I headed to Ormond Beach to participate in a fashion show for Operation Caring Through Sharing. We greeted guests at the door, helped out at rehearsals, assisted with the silent auction and helped the models and performers backstage! Operation Caring Through Sharing is a non-profit organization based in Jacksonville Florida. Their mission is to stop hunger in Florida. The organization started with one woman cooking meals for local families out of her kitchen, today the organization (in its 4th year) provides more than 5,625 meals per month!!! A very special thank you to Brenda and Casie for letting us be part of such an amazing organization. Vivaaaaaaaaaa Las Vegas!!!!!!! This was my first ever trip to see Miss USA Live at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino. The whole day was an eye opening expierence. Friday Morning, Emily and I attended the Miss USA dress rehearsal. Although my ticket said dress rehearsal, it was more of a mock Miss USA Pageant. The contestants, crew and staff spent 2 hours doing the show as if it was the real thing. A mock 15 was announced. I was hoping to watch Jess, but she was not called. Fortunately Jess was a part of the real Top 15 that night! Jess looked great as she went from Top 15 to Top 10! We were and still are very proud of her success!

Love Letters: Random Cards of Kindness, Inc. teamed up with Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market located on South Alafaya Trail . It was a great event, with quite a turn out. While we were there, a woman pulled up in a van and dropped off 400 cards to give to children with life-threatening diseases!

Pictured below are all the cards we actually made in the few hours we were in attendance :) The BasketBall Bear card in the middle is one of mine!

What a day! It was nonstop for the Ormond Pageant and all of the contestants! Morning started with rehearsal followed by interviews. After interviews, we threw a joint celebration for Jessica, Miss Florida USA. Not only did we have a send-off party for her, but it just happened to be her Birthday as well :) Jess was shocked to find that Mayor Fred Costello came to her party and presented a proclamation from the City of Ormond Beach for March 16th is to be Jessica Rafalowski Day!

Jes, Emily, and I emcee while 9 delegates competed for the title of Miss Ormond Beach USA.It was a close race as every contestant did a great job. In the end Densha Jenkins took home the crown and was officially been adopted into our family :)

Magic 107.7 Morning Show hosts Dave Collins and Leslye Gale broadcasted live from the atrium at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. February 13, 14 and 15. Throughout the broadcast they shared stories of children treated at Central Florida's Children's Miracle Network hospitals and invite listeners to help by pledging a monthly gift. I was there maning the phone lines and taking donations. While there we received tons of phone calls. Two phone calls in particular donated a $1000! It was very exciting!

Love Letters: Random Cards of Kindness is a non-profit 501 (c)3 organization which gives inspiring/uplifting homemade cards to children suffering from a life threatening disease. On Feb 9th, I met Kaitlyn Chana, the founder of Love Letters , and assisted her in creating Bear Love Letters for the children at Florida Hospital. The event was held in Altamonte Springs at the Joanne Fabrics store. Many people attended the event and well over a hundred cards were made :) Pictured above are some of the customers who took a moment of their time to make a love letter. Also a close up of my first Bear Love Letter of the day!

Saturday February 2nd marked the inaugral Daytona 500 Parade. Floats and Cars from all over lined up as they drove through Downtown Daytona ending at the DAytona 500 Festival. It was a lot of fun and I am so glad I was able to be apart of the first time parade :)

Hi everyone! Saturday January 12, 2008 marked the second annual Miss Orlando, Miss City Beautiful, and Miss Winter Park Pageant as well as the Outstanding Teen Pageant (for the same titles). It was an all day affair as the Miss contestants had interviews Saturday morning, watched the Outstanding Teen pageant in the afternoon and competed that night.

The Teens had a similar schedule as the did interview friday night, competed satuday afternnoon and watched the Miss pageant saturday night. In the end we crowned 7 wonderful young women who will do a fine job representing Orange County at the Miss Florida America Scholarship Pageant in July. Hats off to our judges as well. My sister queen Emily Kuchar judged the Teen pageant and I must admit they did a great job; they found us the right girls for the job :)

It was off to Ormond Beach to participate in the annual Christmas Parade. This parade was special because we were able to see our Miss Florida USA (and my Volusia County predecessor) Jessica Rafalowski! We arrived early so we could meet parade participants and take tons of photos. What a great parade!

Two days later, Becky, Kaitlyn and I attended a fashion show for Stein Mart and Mary Kay. We listened as Marie Johnson, boutique and agenda coordinator for Stein Mart, explained to the audience what to wear this Holiday season as well as what types of clothing flatter which body shapes.

Miss Orlando & Miss Orlando's Outstanding Teen Orientation

In July, I was honored when Becky Bangert, the Director of the Miss Orlando Pageant (MAO), asked if I would be the Associate Director of the Miss Orlando's Outstanding Teen (MAOT) program. I gladly accepted. My first responsibility was to prepare for the upcoming Miss and Teen pageant. Although the pageants are 6 months away, the work starts now. On Dec. 2 we held our optional orientation in which many contestants came to learn more about our program and what they should expect if they were to win. Holly Hill's 48th Annual Christmas Parade was held on Saturday, December 1st at 10:00 am. The parade traveled south on Ridgewood from 15th to 10th Street. It was so much fun to visit with the kids before the parade started and to ride in the parade.

Following the Holly Hill parade I attended the annual Daytona Beach cleanup in Daytona Beach. There were approximately 20 -30 people in attendance including my sister queens Emily Kuchar, Miss Daytona Beach USA and Halsey Kinne, Miss Ormond Beach Teen USA. We had so much fun restoring Daytona Beach to its natural beauty :)

Thousands lined Woodland Boulevard in Downtown DeLand Saturday night, Dec. 1, to view the 59th annual DeLand Jaycees Christmas Parade. Although it was cold outside, it was well worth it to see the whole community out enjoying this magnificent parade!

Asprey of London, the official jeweller of the royal family, sells their fragrance Purple Water exclusively to Saks 5th Ave and Epcot in the UK. On Nov 24, I assisted in the Asprey Launch at Epcot. There we had complimentary bottle painting services and of course pictures and autographes for those who came by.

After an awesome night of celebrating my new title and my dad's birthday, I had to wake up nice and early for a photo shoot. I am currently the Captain of the Florida USO Girls Troupe and what we do is travel around the state entertaining veterans and those who are currently serving our country. We have put together an hour performance filled with singing, dancing and some audience participation. The photo shoot was for our first ever calendar!!!! The calendar is being released in Mid-December and the proceeds will go to the troupe so we can continue with our voluntary program. Before leaving the shoot, I was able to convince the photographer, Deb Knoske (who by the way is an incredible photographer whose work recently appeared on the cover of Four Points Magazine), to take new crown shots :) She is so sweet and of course said yes! What a way to wrap up a weekend! A new title, a new crown, and new pics! I Cannot wait to compete for the title of Miss Florida USA in Hollywood Florida next July!

On Nov 10th the Miss Daytona Beach USA and Miss Volusia County USA pageant took place at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center.

After a long day of rehearsals, interviews, and bonding with my fellow contestants, I was honored to win the title of Miss Volusia County USA 2009. This was my first time competing in the USA system and I was shocked and elated with the outcome. There were so many girls deserving of the title and I am thrilled that I have the opporunity to spend the next year representing the beautiful Volusia County! Not to mention, I have an amazing sister queen, Emily Kuchar Miss Daytona Beach USA 2009 and the one and only Kim Antos as my executive director!

It was a great day followed by a great evening celebrating my Dad's 55th Birthday! Happy Birthday Dad, I love you!
